Dressmaker sewing guide
- Space runs the sewing machine; you guide the fabric with the mouse.
- The badge by the needle shows your accuracy for the current seam.
- Click the thread spools to change thread colour (added in Build 410).
- Go slowly: 100% quality is achievable, and about 74% of players have done it at least once.
Once your panels are on the mannequin, every seam goes through the sewing machine. It is the most hands-on part of Dressmaker, and the biggest single lever on Quality.
How the machine works
The official screenshot shows the controls: Space runs the machine, and you guide the fabric under the needle with the mouse. A badge next to the needle shows your accuracy for the seam as a percentage.
Since Build 410 you can change the thread colour by clicking the spools on the table. A matching or deliberately contrasting thread is a free way to make a dress look finished.
Tips for cleaner seams
- Slow is smooth. Short bursts of Space give you time to correct the angle before the needle drifts.
- Line up before you start. Position the fabric so the seam line runs straight toward the needle, then begin.
- Watch the accuracy badge, not just the fabric. If it starts falling, stop and realign.
- Good cuts make good seams. Messy edges from the cutting room are harder to follow.
Quality and achievements
A brief’s Quality line is where sewing accuracy shows up. Hitting 100% quality on a dress unlocks 99 Problems But A Stitch Aint One, one of the most common achievements (about 74% of players). Once your seams are consistent, you can take on briefs with higher Quality targets.
Accessibility options
If fine mouse control is hard for you, the community ModLoader adds an accessibility tab with sewing zoom, persistent sewing guides, softer guide colours and brightness and saturation controls. A separate Reduced Motion and Effects mod cuts down movement and flashing.
